What is Skate profiling?
Skate profiling refers to shaping the side profile of your blade — the part that touches the ice when you skate. Many players only sharpen their skates but never adjust the profile, even though the profile affects:
- Stability
- Speed and glide
- Mobility or maneuvrability
- Acceleration
Most new skates come with a generic factory profile that isn’t tailored to your size, weight, or playing style.
But your skating is unique — your blade shape should be too!

- Forwards often prefer Quad XS or Zero for quick edges and fast starts.
- Defensemen may choose Quad I or Superior M/L for stability and glide.
- Bigger, powerful skaters often benefit from Quad II or Superior L.

- Longer profile: More stability and speed — but reduced maneuverability.
